SCHENECTADY – A new store just for cats called The Spicy Purrito has just opened in downtown Schenectady.
Local entrepreneur Tonya Hall opened shop right along Jay Street. There was a ribbon cutting.
Hall says that she has been a cat person her whole life, and has gotten cat-themed birthday cards for over four decades.
The store specializes in homemade catnip cat toys. Hall began making them in March 2017. She makes all the toys herself and chooses fabrics to match colors and themes.
Her products can also be found at the Schenectady Trading Company.
She will continue working full-time at the New York State Lottery while she operates the shop.
The store is currently open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekends, or by appointment. It will also be open during select downtown Schenectady events.
If you’re wondering about the name, Hall says a purrito is a cat wrapped in a blanket, which looks like a burrito. A spicy purrito is an angry cat wrapped in a blanket.
