Northville girls basketball coach fired for postgame altercation with player

Following Friday night's loss in the Class D State Championship game, an altercation between Northville's head coach and its star player ensued on the sideline. In video captured by NFHS, a service that livestreams high school games, Falcons head coach Jim Zullo is seen angrily pulling the ponytail of Hailey Monroe, a senior on Northville's team.

In video captured by NFHS, a service that livestreams high school games, Falcons head coach Jim Zullo is seen angrily pulling the hair of Hailey Monroe, a start player and a senior on Northville’s team.

This happened on the sideline after Friday’s loss in the Class D State Championship game.

The Falcons players were watching their opponent, La Fargeville, celebrate the championship victory at Hudson Valley Community College.

Monroe is visibly upset by the loss for a second straight year in the title game and that’s when Zullo yanks on her hair and then verbally confronts her. A player steps in to break things up and as Zullo is having words with her, the NFHS cameras cut away to show the La Fargeville celebration.

The player who stepped in between the altercation with Zullo and Monroe is Ahmya Tompkins, one of Zullo’s nieces.

Northville lost Friday night’s Class D title, 43-37. The Northville Central School District posted a statement to its Facebook page and website hours after the game, around midnight Friday going into Saturday.
