Nurses, Albany Med leaders spar over safe staffing levels
Nurses were outside of Albany Medical Center on Thursday protesting against what they say are low staffing levels at the hospital.
The New York State Nurses Association says their nurses are being overworked at Albany Med, as they frequently have to care for 50% more patients than they should be.
Hospital leaders, however, are downplaying a new report from the state Department of Health that identified hundreds of times shifts at the hospital weren’t properly staffed.
The hospital CEO said only 480 out of 20,640 shifts studied fell short of the staffing plan, and at no time was patient safety compromised.
