NYSP: Albany man arrested for manufacturing ghost guns
The New York State Police (NYSP) and the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) of Albany arrested Rahmeer Nesmith, 21, of Albany on Thursday for manufacturing ghost guns.
They conducted a search warrant on Orange Street in Albany on that Thursday, which several guns were found, among other items used for the illegal manufacturing.
The items seized included three fully assembled and loaded handguns, three handgun uppers/slides, one loaded assault rifle, six 3-D printed handgun lower receivers, two 3-D prints handgun lower receivers, two 3-D printers assorted rolls of 3-D printer filament, various tools for making ghost guns, numerous high-capacity magazines, and various ammunition.
Nesmith was charged with:
- Ten counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon (large capacity ammunition feeding device)
- One count of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon (assault weapon)
- One count of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon (three or more firearms)
- One count of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon (machine gun)
- Two counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon (major component of a firearm)
State Police say he was arraigned in City of Albany Criminal Court and ordered held at the Albany County Jail in lieu of $100,000 cash or $200,000 bond.
They say the investigation remains ongoing with additional charges pending.
New York State Police were assisted by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, the New York City Police Department Major Case Field Intelligence Team, NYSP Special Operations Response Team, SIU Albany, State Police Capitol Troopers, the Albany Office of Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, and the Albany Police Department.
