Old WPTR 1540 radio towers demolished in Colonie
The old WPTR 1540 towers in Colonie have been knocked down.
The longtime towers of WPTR – 1540 were demolished on Tuesday, according to longtime Capital Region radio DJ John Gabriel.
The towers – located on Albany Street and quite visible from the corner of Route 155 and Central Avenue – were a Capital District landmark.
The station was a top 40 powerhouse in rock n’ roll’s heyday of the Rolling Stones, Beatles, and more.
It was sold many times over the years, drifted through a bunch of formats, changed its call letters to WDCD and eventually shut down altogether several years ago.
