Albany Police identify suspect arrested in stolen dog investigation

One dog believed to be stolen reunited with owners

An update on one of two dogs said to be stolen outside a home in Albany.

One person has been arrested as Albany Police recovered one of two French bulldogs believed to be stolen from outside the dogs’ home near Myrtle and Delaware avenues.

Destiny Winslow, 29, was charged with possession of stolen property. She was arrested on Wednesday at Walgreens on Holland Avenue and had one of the dogs with her, police said. Winslow was arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court and sent to Albany County Jail on $2,500 bond.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Animal Control Unit at 518-472-7107.

The dog’s owner, Alicia Williams, told NewsChannel 13 that the dog found was Anya, a one-year-old. But emotions were mixed for her family as Nova, their three-year-old dog, was still missing Thursday.

The dogs went missing Sunday morning. A family member let the dogs out, and they apparently escaped the side yard. But when the Williams’ returned home and went looking for answers, a neighbor told a scary story about what they’d seen — a light-colored van pulling up and a man taking the dogs from the front of their house.

“Monday morning, the neighbor saw one of the flyers and said, ‘I saw exactly what happened, I just thought that the man was collecting his own dogs.’ She didn’t realize that they were actually taking the dogs,” Willis Williams told NewsChannel 13 Tuesday.

Albany Police told NewsChannel 13 Tuesday that they were investigating what happened and looking at nearby surveillance video.

This is a developing story. Stella Porter is working on learning more information.
