ONLY ON 13: Gillis’ parents’ harsh words for A&E as producers seek her killer
The parents of Kaylin Gillis, Andy and Angel Gillis, are speaking out in an on camera one-on-one interview for the very first time. They’re not happy A&E is thinking about speaking to the man who killed their oldest daughter.
The Gillis’ invited NewsChannel 13 to their home in Florida, where they moved after her tragic death last year.
NewsChannel 13 was first to report last week A&E is interested in the interview with convicted murderer Kevin Monahan as part of its series: “Accused: Guilty or Innocent?”
Kaylin and a group of friends got lost last April 15, 2023, and turned around in a driveway in Washington County. That’s when Monahan, the homeowner, fired two shots at the group. One of those bullets killed Kaylin.
“I was infuriated, just disgusted that a network would do something like that,” Andrew Gillis said about the proposed interview.
“I don’t think it’s right at all. I think it’s disheartening,” said Angel Gillis. “It almost feels like its betrayal to her to us – everybody who cared for her, because he was found guilty by a jury.”
“There’s no question about it, regardless of what he says, and to give him another opportunity to spin another story to us, is just sickening,” she added.
“It just opens the wound again. It’s still quite fresh,” said Andrew Gillis. “It just happened just over a year ago.”
“It’s something we live with every day, and it’s hard for us to know that she’s never coming home, and to have this already being brought out there, it’s just, it’s not right,” Angel Gillis said.
This all makes the Gillis’ question humanity. Thankfully, they have had and continue to have the support of thousands of people all over the country and the world.
“It gives me hope, shows there are good people out there. There are loving people out there, supporting people,” said Angel Gillis. “Just to see how much love we have gotten from the community, from strangers, back in New York, it just shows her story is touching people’s hearts.”
The Gillis’ have a request for all the social media followers on the “Justice for Kaylin” Facebook page.
