ONLY ON 13: Man accused of stabbing ex-partner to death in Schenectady arraigned on murder charge
A man accused of stabbing his ex-partner to death in Schenectady was arraigned on murder and other charges on Monday.
Lance White, 52, is charged in the deadly stabbing of Amanda Jaikaran, 38, on March 14. Jaikaran was stabbed repeatedly in the neck, chest, arms and hands at a home on 818 Lincoln Ave, according to court documents.
White pleaded not guilty in Schenectady County Court to charges of murder and criminal possession of a weapon. He also faces an attempted assault charge in connection with a different victim.
White initially did not go into the courtroom. His attorney tried to get the appearance continued, but Judge Mark Caruso said to bring him in.
White, whose right hand was bandaged, said he wanted to get rid of his attorney and hire a private attorney.
White has eight felony convictions on his record. He was sent back to Schenectady County Jail.
A large number of Jaikaran’s family members were in the courtroom wearing T-shirts with her picture on them.
