Man admits to shaking baby, causing brain injury

A Warren County man admitted Tuesday to shaking his baby so hard that it caused a traumatic brain injury.

Robert Rivers pleaded guilty in Warren County Court to reckless assault against a child. Rivers, of Lake Luzerne, shook the infant so hard last Halloween that she was rushed to Albany Medical Center and was in critical condition for a time.

As part of an agreement with prosecutors, Rivers will be sentenced to 3 ½ years in prison followed by 3 years of post-release supervision.

District Attorney Jason Carusone said the child, who is now almost 8 months old, is making a remarkable recovery.
