Organizer of protest that blocked Saratoga Springs street charged

Saratoga Springs Police said Tuesday that the organizer of a pro-Palestine demonstration that blocked the street has been charged.

Dozens of people marched on Broadway on May 1 in a rally organized by Black Lives Matter.

Police said in a statement that the demonstrators did not seek a permit before demonstrating in Congress Park. That is a violation of city ordinance.

Also, blocking streets without a permit is illegal.

“Doing so strains Police resources, impedes our ability to respond to other calls for service and endangers public safety, as evidenced by the 911 calls made to SSPD during this incident,” the department said in a statement.

Police did not name the person charged.

NewsChannel 13 has learned it is BLM Saratoga co-founder Lexis Figuereo. We have reached out to him for comment.
