Outgoing Saratoga County sheriff reflects on 48 years in law enforcement
Saratoga County Sheriff Mike Zurlo will not seek re-election at the end of this year, as NewsChannel 13 was first to report earlier this week.
He’s reflecting on his 48 years in law enforcement.
He started his career as a patrol officer in Mechanicville in 1974, and joined the sheriff’s office a few years later and served as investigator until his retirement in 2010. He took office as sheriff in 2014.
“We’re going to be grandparents, my son and daughter-in-law down in North Carolina. So looking forward to that,” said Zurlo. “I’d stay forever, but there’s a time that, you know, it’s time to move on.”
Zurlo has endorsed his undersheriff, Jeff Brown, to succeed him.
A lifelong resident of Saratoga County, and a graduate of Shenendehowa High School, Brown has been with the sheriff’s office since 1998.
He’s seeking the Republican line in the November election.
