Parolee arrested in Rotterdam stabbing

Police have arrested a parolee in connection with a weekend stabbing outside a Rotterdam bar.

Jason R. Melendez, 40, of Schenectady, stabbed a person during a fight outside Sliderz Bar & Grill on Guilderland Avenue around 4 a.m. last Saturday, Rotterdam Police said.   

Melendez was arrested on Wednesday night and charged with second-degree assault. He was sent to Schenectady County Jail, pending arraignment.

Melendez was sentenced in 2008 to up to 16 ½ years in prison after being convicted in Orange County of attempted assault and criminal possession of a weapon. He was released in March 2024, according to the state inmate database.
