Pilot’s in shock he’s alive

John Murphy and his two adult children survived after their plane crashed in Manchester, V.T.

John Murphy was flying his plane with his two adult children from Baltimore, Maryland to Rutland, Vermont but never made it to Rutland. His plane crashed on Mt. Equinox in Manchester, V.T. with everyone on board the plane able to survive.

“I survived something, which is usually un-survivable. It’s a grace of God I’m alive. It was terrifying. It’s almost always death,” said Murphy.

Murphy was traveling in his plane with his family to go skiing for the day in Killington, Vermont. However, he said his plane started icing up, which is when he lost control. Murphy said his plane than began to spin and stall before crash landing on Mt. Equinox.

Murphy said he landed at about 55 miles per hour on the mountain.

Even though everyone survived, all three were left with injuries and airlifted to hospitals.

Murphy said he had to get about six stiches in his forehead and broke a bone in his pinky; Murphy’s son had a wound to his head and required five staples, Murphy’s daughter had barely a scratch but minor whiplash.

“They just had a lot of stuff in their favor, like the fact that they survived the crash that they did. And we happened to have everything in place order. And plus, they were far enough down off the top of the mountain that they were we were right up against the clouds. If they were a little higher up the mountain, we wouldn’t have been able access them,” authorities said.
