Pittsfield man gets up to 10 years in prison for raping child
A Pittsfield man was sentenced on Monday to up to 10 years in prison for raping a child.
Dean Giftos, 48, admitted to sexually assaulting a child for a period of about nine to 10 years. Some of the rapes occurred before the child turned 12, prosecutors said.
The investigation began when Giftos confessed to the crime. He made a similar confession to a Pittsfield Police detective.
Giffords pleaded guilty in Berkshire County Court to two counts of rape of a child with force and four counts of child rape-aggravated by age difference.
He was sentenced to 7 to 10 years in prison on the rape with force charges and 3 years of probation after his sentence on the other charges. When he is released, he must have no contact with the victim, no unsupervised contact with minors and must attend sex offender treatment. If he violates the terms of his probation, he faces a minimum of 10 years in prison.
