Pittsfield School Commitee postpones vote on second investigation

Pittsfield School Commitee postpones vote

The Mayor of Pittsfield said this is because an agreement has not been made yet between the district and the law firm.

The Pittsfield School Commitee voted to postpone a vote on a second investigation at their meeting Wednesday night.

Pittsfield Mayor Peter Marchetti said this is because the agreement between the law firm and the school committee was not ready yet.

“The agreement has not been finalized so school committee can’t vote,” Mayor Marchetti said.

The committee said they will now vote on the investigation at their next meeting on January 22.

If approved, the law firm planned to do the investigation would be the Mirick O’Connell law firm.

This investigation would be separate than the previous one that was approved at last month’s special meeting.

This second investigation would examine the hiring practices for employees across the Pittsfield Public Schools. The investigation that was approved last month is being done by a separate law firm and is looking into specific incidents at Pittsfield High School.

This comes after multiple school administrators being placed on leave, one even being arrested, and a student filling a lawsuit against her former English teacher for sexual harassment.

NewsChannel 13 spoke with Betty Zheng, a sophomore student at Pittsfield High School who said everything at school has been quite normal.

“There has not been too much change, and I think that is mostly in relation with how the teachers have been acting,” Zheng said.

Zheng said her teachers have been very consistent and reliable calling them a “source of stability” for students.
