Police: Albany teen raped victim at gunpoint
A 17-year-old from Albany is accused of using a weapon to intimidate a person during a rape. Four other people are also facing charges.
Police responded to the area of North Main Avenue and Manning Boulevard on May 18 for a report of a sexual assault. Detectives from the Albany Police Department’s Child and Family Service Unit determined the identity of the suspect.
Police searched a residence in the 500 block of Lark Drive near Manning Boulevard on Wednesday. They arrested the suspect and found four handguns, two of them loaded, police said.
The 17-year-old’s name is not being released due to his age. He was charged with rape, menacing and five counts of criminal possession of a weapon. He was arraigned in Albany County Family Court and sent to the Capital District Juvenile Secure Detention Facility.
A 15-year-old girl was charged with five counts of criminal possession of a weapon. She was released on an appearance ticket and will be appear at Albany County Probation on a later date.
Chyna Dowdell, 19, was charged with five counts of criminal possession of a weapon. She was arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court and sent to Albany County Jail with bail set at $20,000.
Shaheim Smith, 22, was also charged with five counts of criminal possession of a weapon. He was arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court and sent to Albany County Jail on $40,000 bail.
Octavia Smith, 40, was charged with eight counts of criminal possession of a weapon. She was arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court and sent to the Albany County Jail.
