Albany Police have arrested a second person in connection with the case of a dog being set on fire.

Latisha Ellis 32, of Albany, was charged on Wednesday with animal cruelty. Police said she co-owned the dog with Christopher Maxwell, who is accused of keeping the pit bull in a crate in his residence without food or water for several days.

When Maxwell returned to the area, he took the dog to a parking lot in the area of Fourth Avenue and Franklin Street. He then allegedly poured lighter fluid ono the crate and set it on fire. Police found the dog on Feb. 24 just after 7 a.m.

NewsChannel 13 reported Wednesday night Live at Eleven that Ellis was arrested after the Albany County Sheriff’s Office raided a home on Broad Street.

Police said they found a 3-year-old male dog at her residence, which was locked in a crate with inadequate food and water and living in unsanitary conditions.

Ellis was arrested investigators from the Albany Police Department’s Special Operations Unit, who are charged with investigating incidents of animal cruelty.

Ellis has been charged with one count of aggravated cruelty to animals and one count of torturing or injury

Both Ellis and Maxwell are scheduled to appear in Albany City Criminal Court on Friday.
