Police: Man who jumped off bridge suspect in double murder of parents

State Police said the man who jumped to his death on 787 Thursday is a suspect in the killings of his parents in Schenectady.

State Police said the man who jumped to his death on 787 Thursday is a suspect in the killings of his parents in Schenectady.

Police responded to the Patroon Island Bridge around 4 p.m. after receiving a report of a man threatening to jump. The man, identified as Jordan Miklowitz, 35, jumped after authorities arrived on scene.

Brianna Breglia lives right down the street from the scene and was shocked when she heard the news.

“I was just walking home from work, and I came up the road and there was at least, 7 or 8 cop cars, and they were all in a circle, said Breglia. “And I noticed that there was a sheriff’s vehicle in the driveway of the home. And then later that night, they had the whole street crossed off and still had cop cars sitting outside.”

During the investigation, police searched the home that Miklowitz shares with his parents on Morris Avenue and found David J. Miklowitz, 75, and Kathryn Miklowitz, 73, dead. An autopsy has classified their deaths as a homicide resulting from blunt force trauma, police said.

Jordan Miklowitz is the primary suspect based upon statements he made before his death and evidence collected at the scene, police said.

“The working theory of the case is that this young man took his parents life and took his own life,” said Schenectady County District Attorney Robert Carney. “There is no evidence to the contrary that has been discovered.”

Carney did not have many other details as State Police are collecting forensic evidence. There was no word on a motive.

Carney said police had received a call prior to the murders reporting hearing yelling and noise coming from the residence. Officers did not make any contact with the residents when they responded and they left.

They returned later after Jordan Miklowitz died by suicide.

Police said there is no threat to the public.

The Schenectady Police Department also assisted State Police.
