Police release name of trooper who shot suspect while on duty in South Glens Falls

The name of the trooper involved in Wednesday's officer-involved shooting in South Glens Falls has been released. He is Jason Flynn, State Police said.

The name of the trooper involved in Wednesday’s officer-involved shooting in South Glens Falls has been released. He is Jason Flynn, State Police said.

Trooper Flynn has been a member of state police for more than five years. He is assigned to the Troop G Community Stabilization Unit, police said.

During Wednesday’s chase, Billy Cassell III crashed into a home in the village, just off Route 9.

Cassell got out of the car with a gun. Troopers told him to drop that gun several times, police said.

Cassell allegedly pointed it at the troopers instead.

Trooper Flynn then fired and shot Cassell in the shoulder, police said.

Cassell is in Saratoga County Jail without bail.

He was arrested on several charges, including menacing and criminal possession of weapon.
