Police: Rensselaer man sought who he thought was teen for sex

A Rensselaer man is accused of trying to meet who he thought was a 14-year-old to have sex.

George W. Thompson, 40, was charged with second-degree attempted rape and with patronizing a person for prostitution.

State Police arrested Thompson after an investigation found he made arrangements to meet up with who believed was a teen, investigators said.

No child was actually involved, investigators said.

Thompson was arrested last week and released on an appearance ticket. He is due in Colonie Town Court on Jan. 24.
