Police: Saratoga Springs commissioner prevented access to records
A Saratoga Springs commissioner is accused of preventing access to records.
Commissioner of Accounts Dillon Moran has been charged with three noncriminal complaints alleging that on three separate dates in February, March and May of this year, he issued false sworn certifications in response to Freedom of Information Law requests.
A private citizen made the complaints to the court on Nov. 26 and the court issued a summons.
Moran is accused of falsely stating in response to the request that that no such records existed, according to court documents. However, the records did exist.
Moran is scheduled to appear in Saratoga Springs City Court at a later date.
The city of Saratoga Springs has been embroiled in controversy over the alleged use of city services and employees for their personal benefit.
Former Public Works Commissioner and Jason Golub and Deputy Public Works Commissioner Joseph O’Neill have been charged with misconduct. The allegations are that a city employee assisted Golub unclogging a sink on city time. Golub has since left the position and taken a state job. O’Neill recently was suspended for five days.
When Golub and O’Neill were charged, Moran issued a statement saying that it was “deeply troubling” that the police department would charge Golub with a crime.
When contacted by NewsChannel 13, Moran said he had no comment. “It is clear however, that Mike Brandi and the GOP intend to continue to try and criminalize the actions of Democrats. Everyone should be disgusted by his actions,” he said.
The Saratoga Springs Republican Committee said on its Facebook page that it would have no comment on this case.
