Police: Schoharie County pair left farm animals without food, water
Two people from Schoharie County are accused of leaving farm animals without food or water and having multiple deceased animals on their property.
State Police responded to a residence in Jefferson on Dec. 16 for a report of a property dispute. Troopers found Jonathan Summers, 46, with multiple guns, police said. Summers is not allowed to have firearms because of previous felony conviction.
While at the residence, troopers found numerous cats living in poor condition. They returned the following day and found multiple ducks, chickens and cats on the property shared by Summers and 44-year-old Jennifer A. Scott. The ducks and chickens were in poor physical condition and had no access to food or water, police said. In addition, there were multiple dead animals on the property.
Two ducks, 15 chickens, and 22 cats were voluntarily surrendered and turned over to the care of the Susquehanna Animal Shelter and the Schoharie County Animal Shelter.
Summers and Scott were charged with 39 counts of overdriving, torturing, and injuring animals-failure to provide proper sustenance.
Summers also was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.
They were issued appearance tickets and are due in Jefferson Town Court on Feb. 3.
