Police: Suspect stabbed Niskayuna man in the chest

A man is accused of stabbing a Niskayuna resident on Monday.

Police responded just before 8:30 p.m. to a report of a person with a weapon at 2361 St. Joseph Drive. Officers arrived to find a man with a stab wound to his chest. Witnesses identified the suspect as 31-year-old Kwate Edgerton, according to police.

The victim was taken to Albany Medical Center.

Edgerton, who has no known address, was acquainted with the victim.

Edgerton ran away from the residence toward the city of Schenectady. Despite the assistance of a Schenectady County Sheriff’s Office K-9, he was not found.

Shortly after 2:30 a.m., Niskayuna police learned that Edgerton had returned to the scene. Officers responded and arrested him. 

Edgerton was charged with first-degree assault. More charges are possible, police said.
