Police: Two people caught near MCLA campus with possible $100,000 in drugs
Two people are facing drug trafficking charges in Berkshire County. The drugs had a street value of approximately $62,000 to $103,000, investigators said.
Joseph Mathews, 25, of Adams, and Kayla Stojda, 31, whose address is unknown, are accused of trafficking more than a thousand grams of cocaine and crack cocaine, according to the Berkshire County District Attorney’s Office.
Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts police officers were patrolling the campus around 9:20 Friday evening, when they saw unusual activity on private property at 228 East Main St. next to a building owned by the college, police said.
Police informed Mathews that he was trespassing. He allegedly refused to leave. Police entered the building around 9:30 p.m. and Matthews attempted to flee. He didn’t cooperate with police as they tried to lead him away from the building, they said, and claimed his girlfriend was outside and they were going to meet up.
When more officers arrived where Mathews was originally was spotted, they found Stojda in the same area, they said. She was carrying a backpack with cocaine and crack cocaine, police said.
Stojda and Mathews were both charged with trafficking and trespassing and sent to jail.
