Police: Woman let 73-year-old father starve in unsanitary home

A woman is accused of letting her 73-year-old father starve and live in unsanitary conditions at his home in Schenectady.

Christine Jackson, 48, was charged with a felony count of endangering the welfare of an incompetent or disabled individual.

Schenectady Police received a call on Tuesday around 10 a.m. from an out-of-town family member requesting that they check on a man living at residence on Avenue A.

When officers arrived, they found the man in an emaciated state and living in unhealthy conditions, police said.

Jackson had claimed to be his caretaker, and she was getting paid through an agency to provide services for him. She had been taking care of him for an extended period of time, according to investigators. 

The man was taken to Ellis Hospital for treatment.

Jackson pleaded not guilty at her arraignment in Schenectady City Court. She was released in probation and is due back in court on March 31.
