Price Chopper to reopen four former ShopRites as Market 32

Four former ShopRite stores in the Capital Region will reopen as Market 32 stores.

Price Chopper made the official announcement on Tuesday afternoon.

The Colonie store will move to the former ShopRite down the road on Central Avenue. It will continue to have a kosher department, which is unique to the store.

The Albany store will move from Westgate Plaza to the former ShopRite in that area.

The former ShopRite in North Greenbush and Niskayuna will also be converted.

Price Chopper also plans to work with landlords and the community to market the Colonie Plaza property and the former Slingerlands ShopRite.

The hope is to have the new Market 32 stores officially open by early summer.

ShopRite announced suddenly last October they would be shutting down their Capital Region grocery stores. The stores closed in November. Price Chopper quickly announced they had bought the store’s assets.

It was later learned Price Chopper had made a deal with ShopRite to close the stores months earlier, leaving hundreds of people without a job.
