The Saratoga County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday voted down a proposal to prohibit bars from selling alcohol in Saratoga County after 2 a.m. from November through April and after 3 a.m. from May through October. It would have remained 4 a.m. for New Year’s Day.

Town Supervisors at the board meeting were worried on the effect this change could have not just on Saratoga Springs but all of Saratoga County, looking at small local taverns.

Some county leaders also bringing up the point that some people don’t finish work till after midnight and should still have the opportunity to have a drink after work.

A public hearing was held where the legislation seemed to have support last week. However, city leaders in Saratoga Springs are now going back to the drawing board.

NewsChannel 13 spoke to bars and residents in Saratoga Springs, and most seemed thankful the proposal was rejected.

“I understand the sentiment for safety. But we do bring in a lot of revenue in that last hour. Hour and a half,” said a local bar tender.

“It gives people and tourism more opportunities to go and have fun. I mean, it’s a fun town. So I mean, I’m glad they kept it the way it is,” a local resident said.

NewsChannel 13’s Zach Richter was at the meeting and will have reaction to the decision on-air and online.
