Prosecutors: New Scotland contractor ripped off three customers, didn’t pay subcontractors
Prosecutors have released more details about a New Scotland contractor who is accused of failing to complete jobs.
John Weigel, 53, allegedly took money from two customers in Guilderland and one in Colonie, and did not finish the work.
NewsChannel 13 previously reported on one of the Guilderland victims. Dr. Jose David paid Weigel to renovate two floors at his practice on Alton Road but the work was never done.
The second Guilderland victim lived in the area of Arden Craig Drive. Weigel is also accused not completing a job at a residence on Kasper Drive in Colonie, according to the Albany County District Attorney’s Office.
Weigel is accused taking more than $3,000 from each victim.
Weigel also didn’t pay subcontractors, prosecutors said.
Weigel pleaded not guilty in Albany County Court on Tuesday to three counts of grand larceny and one count of scheme to defraud. He was released to the supervision of probation and is due back in court on Oct. 29.
