Schenectady family grieves 8-year-old boy killed in hit-and-run crash
A Queens man has been arrested for allegedly leaving the scene of an accident that killed an 8-year-old boy on Wednesday.
The crash happened around 7:38 p.m. in the area of Chrisler Avenue and Crane Street.
The family says the boy, Zion Keith Delancy, was crossing the street with his brother when he was struck.
He was taken to Ellis Hospital, where he died from his injuries. Police said the driver, identified as 29-year-old Conroy A. Simpson, left the scene.
Within an hour of the crash, police had located Simpson and his vehicle in the Woodlawn area of Schenectady and arrested him.
Simpson was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and operating a motor vehicle without insurance. He was arraigned in Schenectady City Court. Bail was set at $250,000 cash or $500,000 bond.

NewsChannel 13’s Dan Levy spoke with his grieving family members.
“My heart hurts and I hope we get justice because my boy wasn’t just nobody. I feel like he should be in jail for life,” said his mother Sequoia Gamble.
Grandmother Loretta Fountleroy also was overcome with emotion.
“I just want justice for Zion, and I’m so hurt. I’m so hurt. I want my grandson back. I want him back please,” she said.
A GoFundMe has been set up for the family. It describes Zion as an intelligent and loving person, a great big brother and little brother and who loved smiling and dancing.
