Rally for prison reform set in wake of inmate’s death
Activists will hold a rally at the governor's mansion on Monday following the deadly beating of Robert Brooks in Elmira Correctional Facility earlier this month.
Advocates are rallying for prison reform in light of the death of inmate Robert Brooks at Marcy Correctional Facility.
A video released Friday by the Attorney General’s Office showed corrections officers assaulting Brooks. Brooks later died.
A total of 13 corrections officers have been suspended and one has resigned after Brooks died on Dec. 10.
Formerly incarcerated individuals and advocates will come together at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 30 outside of the Governor’s Mansion in Albany.
They are calling for those responsible for Brooks’ death to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and that the prison system be reformed.
