Recent rain storms lead to significant flooding at harbor in Waterford
All the rain that has been falling in the past week has to led to heavy flooding at the harbor in Waterford.
“Yeah, it’s still pretty bad, but I guess it’s going to stay like this. Hopefully we’re not going to get rain until like, next Friday. So, this should dissipate. It should rise up one more time from the mountains and then it should dissipate by the end of the week,” said one Waterford resident.
Rising water levels from the Mohawk River flooded a nearby island. Boaters were forced to move their boats to prevent them from hitting the top of this nearby bridge.
Parts of a nearby dock also collapsed.
Boaters have also seen the impacts out on the water.
“It’s risen so much that it’s washed all kinds of stuff that was high and dry off the shores,” said one boater.
Boaters said they have seen logs the size of utility poles floating down the Mohawk River.
The New York State Canal Corporation has delayed the opening of the Erie Canal, writing in a statement “significant rainfall has created high flows and unsafe conditions along the Easter and Central Erie Canal.”
