Rensselaer Common Council plans to override mayor’s veto of drastic pay cut for employee

The Rensselaer Common Council says it is planning to override the mayor's veto of a pay cut for Jason Schofield.

The Rensselaer Common Council says it is planning to override the mayor’s veto of a pay cut for Jason Schofield.

Schofield, the former Rensselaer County elections commissioner, currently works as a clerk at City Hall.

As NewsChannel 13 previously reported, the common council voted to cut Schofield’s pay by 99%. He’s at $40,000 right now. That will be chopped to $100.

Lawmakers are hoping to force the city to hire someone new. However, Republican Mayor Mike Stammel vetoed the decision. However, the council has a democratic majority. They plan to override the mayor.

That decision is coming this week, according to lawmakers.

Schofield is taking legal action against the city. He has filed a notice of claim.
