Rensselaer County democrats push to establish county animal shelter

Rensselaer County Democrats are pushing to establish a county animal shelter.

Mohawk Hudson Humane Society cut ties with 16 municipalities last October, including several towns in Rensselaer County.

The shelter no longer had the capacity to deal with the number of animals being brought in, it said.

County lawmakers are now pushing to establish a bipartisan committee to find a home – and the funding – needed for a countywide animal shelter.

The goal is to establish a plan before January 1.
