Rensselaer County man who dragged trooper with ATV to get 7 years in prison
A Sand Lake man is expected to receive 7 years in prison for admitting to striking and dragging a state trooper with his ATV.
Joseph Dominy, 19, pleaded guilty in Rensselaer County Court on Friday to second-degree assault.
Dominy was illegally riding the ATV in the area of Johnny Cake Lane in Sand Lake just before 5 p.m. on March 1. Troopers were attempting to stop him and he was combative. Dominy sped away from the scene, while dragging the trooper for about 200 yards, according to the Rensselaer County District Attorney’s Office.
The trooper eventually freed himself, but had had a broken ankle.
Police found the ATV hidden on a nearby property and eventually located Dominy.
He is due to be sentenced on Aug. 30.
