Rensselaer home health aide admits to stealing $28,500 from client
A Guilderland home health aide admits to stealing nearly $29,000 from a client with dementia.
A home health aide from Rensselaer has admitted to stealing about $28,500 from a client in Guilderland.
Lakeisha Stewart, 43, pleaded guilty in Albany County Court to attempted grand larceny. Stewart cashed several checks from the checking account of the victim, the Albany County Sheriff’s Office said. It all happened between Jan. 5 and Feb. 1, police said.
Stewart was diagnosed with dementia and unable to consent to those payments.
Sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 2.
Stewart faces a range five years of probation to six months in the Albany County Jail when sentenced on Feb. 2. She also will face five years of post-release supervision.
Assistant District Attorney Nicole Theal is handling prosecution of the case.
