Rensselaer mayor vetoes decision to cut pay of former Rensselaer County elections commissioner to $100
Rensselaer Mayor Michael Stammel has vetoed his common council’s decision to cut the pay of former Rensselaer County Elections Commissioner Jason Schofield, after Schofield pleaded guilty to voter fraud.
Schofield is awaiting sentencing. He is working as a clerk at Rensselaer City Hall.
As NewsChannel 13 reported earlier this month, the Rensselaer County Common Council voted to cut Schofield’s pay from $40,000 a year to $100 a year. Lawmakers did this hoping to force the city to hire someone new.
Schofield was one of the prosecution’s star witnesses in the federal trial of Rensselaer County officials accused of election fraud.
