Ellsworth Commons residents allowed back in to grab items

Ellsworth Commons residents in Malta were allowed back in to grab items after the deadline shooting that set off the sprinkler system.

Residents at Ellsworth Commons Apartments in Malta are still out of their homes after an officer-involved shooting at the apartment on Thursday.

Brandon R. Moore was killed after a domestic incident in Building 2 that began around 9 a.m. Moore had barricaded himself in the apartment. When he did come out, he aimed what was determined to be a BB gun at police. They fired their weapons and killed him

The shooting set off the sprinkler system and damaged the building.

Video sent to NewsChannel 13 by a resident shows fans in a hallway to dry out the building. The management company has offered to provide residents discounted rates at a motel.

Five Quick Response trucks and several employees were at the scene bringing fans and other equipment inside.

NewsChannel 13’s Tessa Bentulan spoke with residents who were let back in their apartments to grab some items.

Sonya Clark said many residents were not exactly sure what was going on at the time this happened. She saw all the police vehicles and tactical gear.

She and her dog went back on Friday and she got some food and fresh clothes. She had been wearing the same clothes for 24 hours. Clark said she is able to stay with some friends, but she has not slept.

“I have bloodshot eyes and displacement is kind of frustrating,” she said. “I’m not sure if it’s going to be two days, two weeks. Easter’s next weekend, I have people coming in, and I don’t know what’s going to happen.”

Two troopers were hurt, but they are recovering, police said.
