Moreau residents say cannabis plant is illegal, and it stinks
TOWN OF MOREAU, N.Y. (WNYT) – People in the Town of Moreau are frustrated over what they’re calling an illegal cannabis farm.
The town held a board meeting Tuesday night where residents came out to express their concerns on the marijuana plant.
A representative from the plant owned by Shangri La Real Estate was at Tuesday’s night meeting. They gave a document out to residents and the board that said what their plant is about.
There was an email address listed on the document that NewsChannel 13 reached out to but received a message in return that said the message was undeliverable.
The stench has been going on for the past few months, residents said. According to the town, the plant doesn’t even have the proper permits.
New York State’s Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) does not list a farm’s location at 63 Spier Falls Road as a licensed cannabis plant on their website.
Moreau Town Supervisor Jesse Fish said the farm claims they have these state licenses but have not shown proof of it. The town also said that OCM does not respond to them.
Meanwhile, neighbors such as Kevin Jacobie who live by the farm said the stench is just awful.
“It was a nice area to live in with the fresh air and the state park right up the road, and now it’s, like, it’s not enjoyable to sit out on my front porch anymore,” said Jacobie.
Town Supervisor Jesse Fish Jr. said the farm began harvesting and neighbors said the smell has actually gone down since then, but everyone is just frustrated that this farm didn’t have the proper permits.
