Scammers will create fake profiles of someone you would be attracted to and trust, according to the New York Department of State’s Division of Consumer Protection Alerts.
Criminals will also say they’ll be unavailable to meet in person, and will request money.
In fact, the FBI received 19,000 complaints in 2022, totaling $740 million.
Officials encourage everyone to always be on high alert if they’re using an online dating app.
