Roofing company owner gets probation in death coverup

A Fulton County roofing company owner gets 5 years of probation in the cover up of the on-the-job accident that killed an employee.

The owner of a Fulton County roofing company was sentenced last week to 5 years of probation for trying to cover up the death of one of his employees on the job.

Jeremiah Wiedemann, owner of Wiedemann Sons Roofing, had previously admitted one of his employees had fallen off a roof on May 12, 2023 in the town of Northampton. Instead of reporting the incident, Wiedemann moved the severely employee to a local spillway to conceal that he had been working for him at the time of the accident, according to the Inspector General’s Office.

Wiedemann told police that a person had fallen near the Batchellerville Bridge in Saratoga County. The person was taken by helicopter to Albany Medical Center, where he died from his injuries within days, according to the state Attorney General’s Office.

Wiedemann, 43, of Gloversville, also didn’t have workers’ compensation insurance for his employees and directed other workers to clean up the scene to hide the work-related nature of the accident.

Wiedmann had pleaded guilty to tampering with physical evidence and failure to secure workers’ compensation. He was sentenced on June 10 in Fulton County Supreme Court and ordered to pay a fine.
