A vigil was held in Rotterdam on Thursday honoring the life and legacy of President Jimmy Carter.

The site of the recently restored monument in Rotterdam was once the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Carter.
Long before his presidency, Carter and his wife Rosalynn lived in Rotterdam while he served in the U.S. Navy and attended Union College. It was a government housing complex called Mohawk Manor.

The Carter Monument at the spot on Duanesburg Road commemorates this chapter of his life.

Carter passed away at 100 years old last month.

He was honored on Thursday during a national funeral service in Washington, D.C.
