Crailo State Historic Site showcases Christmas tradition history
Ever wondered where the inspiration for Santa Claus came from?
The Crailo State Historic site in Rensselaer held an event to teach the public about Christmas 300 years ago.
Saturday’s Saint Nicholas Day celebration took visitors back to the time when Dutch colonists celebrated Christmas in the Hudson River Valley.
Visitors got to explore the museum, enjoy some holiday treats from 17th and 18th century recipes, and say hello to Saint Nicholas, who was known to the Dutch as Sinterklaas.
