Saratoga County looks to boost occupancy tax

Saratoga County looks to boost occupancy tax as Belmont Stakes is set to return to Saratoga Springs.

Saratoga County is looking to increase its occupancy tax from 2% to 3%.

The Saratoga County Board of Supervisors on Thursday approved a resolution to ask the state Legislature to amend the law to allow them to raise the rate.

This money is collected from people who book hotel rooms and short-term rentals like Airbnb.

In addition, the city of Saratoga Springs collects its own occupancy tax, and they are seeking an increase as well.

Saratoga Springs and the surrounding area are expecting another influx of visitors for the Belmont Stakes Racing Festival. This is the second year that the race will be held in the Spa City as there is construction at Belmont Park on Long Island.
