Police: Queens man arrested after fleeing from deputy, endangering traffic in Saratoga Springs
The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jose A. Guity, 25, of Queens for reckless driving, fleeing a police officer, among other accounts.
The Sheriff’s Office stopped a vehicle on Interstate 87 in Saratoga Springs on Friday around 4:53 p.m. for an unsafe lane change, when the vehicle fled the scene northbound on the interstate, later taking exit 14.
Authorities say after the vehicle continued westbound on NYS Route 9P, it abruptly stopped in the middle of traffic and Guity fled on foot in the area of Yaddo Gardens.
Guity is accused of traveling westbound in the eastbound Route 9P lane while driving 75 mph in a 30 mph zone, said the Sheriff’s Office.
After a brief foot pursuit, Guity was taken into custody and charged with the following:
- First-degree reckless endangerment (class D felony)
- Seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance
- Resisting arrest, unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle
- Reckless driving, moving from lane unsafely, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle
Police say Guity was arraigned in Saratoga Springs City Court and remanded to the Saratoga County Jail.
