City officials in Saratoga Springs are blasting the Saratoga County district attorney – as the ongoing battle over an officer-involved shooting on the city streets continues.
An off-duty sheriff’s deputy from Vermont exchanged gunfire with a group from Utica – and was shot by a Saratoga Springs Police Officer, say investigators.
District Attorney Karen Heggen withdrew her motion Thursday to extend a gag order surrounding the November 20 shooting. This comes just one day after Heggen said she would sue the mayor and the public safety commissioner to keep the investigation out of the public eye.
Mayor Ron Kim said at a Thursday press conference the district attorney should do her job.
“We ought to have some arrests in this matter that have been pending for almost 30 days. Instead of filing civil actions and going to civil court, why haven’t there been any arrests? Why hasn’t there been any action regarding, basically, a criminal act that is on video that we’ve all seen,” said Kim.
There have been no criminal arrests in the case.
