Schenectady City Council passes 2024 budget
The Schenectady City Council on Thursday finally approved the 2024 budget after weeks of setbacks.
The first plan was unable to be approved because of a lack of a quorum. when it was approved, Mayor Gary McCarthy vetoed it because he said it cut too much police and fire department overtime and didn’t raise fees enough for water, sewer and trash services. He also criticized the entire process to review the budget.
The council was not able to override the veto and went back to the drawing board.
McCarthy suggested earlier this week that if they could not figure this out, he would take legal action.
