Man faces more charges in fencing scam

James Butler accused of taking nearly $15,000 for fence jobs that were not completed.

A Schenectady fence contractor already facing charges in other communities for allegedly not completing jobs has been arrested by North Greenbush Police.

James Butler, owner of Trust A Fence, turned himself in on several active warrants, police said. A resident reported on March 28 that Butler was paid around $5,016.32 to put in a fence several months previously but did not do so.

Another resident reported on Feb. 28 that they gave $2,802.05 to Butler in October for a job that was not completed. The resident took Butler to small claims court and received a $3,061 judgment. However,

Police said Butler paid the judgment using a check with insufficient funds.
A third resident said they paid $6,771.68 for a fence installation and the job was not completed.

Butler was charged with two felony counts of grand larceny and a misdemeanor of issuing a bad check. He was arraigned in North Greenbush Town Court and released to return at a later date.

Butler is facing charges for allegedly taking more than $15,000 from two victims in Saratoga County and Warren County and $7,000 from a homeowner in Glenville.
