Schenectady man dies in Saratoga County Jail

A Schenectady man arrested Saturday on drug and weapons charges has died in jail.

Derek Labutta, 43, was picked up by Saratoga Springs police officers after he was seen smoking an illegal substance at the Woodlawn Avenue parking garage, investigators said. He was also charged with weapons possession.

Labutta was found at Saratoga County Jail shortly after 7 p.m., according to investigators. Lifesaving measures were unsuccessful.

The New York State Attorney General’s Office of Special Investigations and police are both investigating.

An autopsy has not yet been conducted.
