Schenectady Police are continuing to investigate two homicides in two days – an extremely rare occurrence.

Lt. Ryan Macherone tells NewsChannel 13’s Dan Levy that he cannot remember the last time that happened.

Police were called to 1834 Hamburg St. just before 1 p.m. on Thursday. They received information that a person at that location was seen carrying a gun. After looking around for a while, they found the body of a person whose name has not yet been released.

On Wednesday, 36-year-old Wilfredo Vasquez Jr. was shot in front of a neighborhood deli and grocery store on Van Vranken Ave. A sidewalk memorial has gone up at the location.

Police do not believe the two are connected, they said.

There was gunfire and arguments at both locations, Macherone said. Investigators said they believe both victims were shot at relatively close range.
