Schenectady Police, sheriff’s department mourn sudden loss of beloved K-9

Schenectady Police and the sheriff’s department are mourning the sudden loss of a K-9.

Ramo died after suddenly becoming ill on Thursday evening, police said. He was 9 years old, and would have turned 10 in August. He had an aggressive cancer, police said.

He joined Schenectady Police in 2017 and moved to the sheriff’s department in 2020.

He was jointly named with another K-9, Vert. Together, their names honored Ptl. Eric Verteramo, who died in the line of duty in 2004.

“We will always remember Ramo for his dedication to our community and for all he did to keep us safe,” police said in a statement.
